MOGADISHU, 5 October 2026 Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on his re-election on Monday, saying he looked forward to working closely with him to strengthen relations between the two countries.
In a post on X, Hassan Sheikh wished Abiy success in his renewed mandate and said Somalia would work with Ethiopia to advance peace, stability and shared prosperity for the two countries and the wider Horn of Africa.

“I look forward to working closely together to strengthen Somalia-Ethiopia relations and advance peace, stability and shared prosperity for our peoples and the Horn of Africa,” Hassan Sheikh said.
Abiy was sworn in for a second term on Monday, beginning another five-year mandate as Ethiopia faces renewed fighting in the northern Tigray region and broader security and political challenges.
