Somalia, July 17, 2026 Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday extended condolences to Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh, the government and people of Djibouti following the death of Defence Minister Hassan Omar Mohamed.
In a statement issued by the presidency, Mohamud described the late minister as a senior statesman who played a significant role in strengthening Djibouti's defence institutions, enhancing national security and promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The Somali president also credited Mohamed with supporting efforts to assist Somalia during years of security cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Hassan Sheikh said Somalia stood in solidarity with Djibouti during the period of mourning and reaffirmed the close ties of friendship, cooperation and shared history between the two countries.
Hassan Omar Mohamed died on Thursday in France, where he had been receiving medical treatment. President Guelleh travelled to Paris to pay his respects, describing the late minister as one of the country's most dedicated public servants.
Djibouti has been one of Somalia's closest regional security partners, contributing troops to the African Union peace support mission in the country.
