Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia plans to establish a swimming club as part of efforts to promote sports among young people, the Youth Ministry said.
The plan was presented during a meeting between Somalia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali, and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye in youth development, sports and institutional capacity building.

The Minister said investing in young people is one of the government's important priorities, describing youth as the country’s greatest asset and a foundation for long-term development and stability.
He also shared with the ambassador ongoing efforts to support Somalia’s under-17 teams to participate in regional competitions. Somalia’s under-17 football team made history in 2022 after winning the country’s first regional football title.Ambassador Aktaş welcomed the Ministry’s new headquarters and commended the institutional progress achieved under the Minister’s leadership.
The meeting reflected Somalia and Türkiye’s shared interest in expanding cooperation in youth development, improving sports standards and strengthening public institutions.
