Baku, Azerbaijan(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Khadijo Mohamed Almakhzoumi, leads the country's delegation at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, emphasizing Somalia’s commitment to addressing climate change impacts and enhancing resilience.
Speaking at the opening plenary, Almakhzoumi highlighted the importance of amplifying Somalia’s role in global climate efforts, particularly in securing climate finance and building sustainable adaptation strategies.
"This COP provides an invaluable platform for collaboration to strengthen Somalia’s climate adaptation efforts and secure climate finance,” Almakhzoumi said.
UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, addressing the conference's opening, urged swift global cooperation to keep the 1.5°C temperature goal within reach, emphasizing that clean energy investments are growing exponentially.
COP29 will continue until November 22, fostering international action on climate resilience and adaptation.
