Mogadishu, 8 September 2026 Somalia has launched the Somalia Multisectoral Nutrition Strategy 2026, a national framework aimed at strengthening the prevention and response to malnutrition and coordinating efforts between government institutions and development partners.
The launch event, held on Monday, was organized by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Scaling Up Nutrition programme and was opened by representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
The event brought together ministries and institutions from the federal government and federal member states, including those responsible for health, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, planning, and environment and climate change.
The National Disaster Management Agency and the National Bureau of Statistics also participated, alongside international partners supporting the Somali government, including the World Food Programme, FAO, the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

Civil society and humanitarian organizations, as well as Somali universities, also took part in the launch.
The strategy sets out a common direction for addressing the causes of malnutrition by linking efforts across the health, food and agriculture sectors.
It also places emphasis on social protection, climate-related challenges, and water and sanitation.
Government officials called on all stakeholders to jointly support the implementation of the strategy to achieve progress in nutrition and the well-being of the Somali people.
