DAR ES SALAAM, 9 October 2026 Somalia is participating in the 12th Conference of Parties to the Nairobi Convention (COP12), which focuses on protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, addressing climate change and promoting the blue economy in the Western Indian Ocean.
A delegation led by Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Major General Bashir Mohamed Jama, is representing the Federal Government of Somalia at the summit, which runs from October 6 to 9, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The biennial conference is the Nairobi Convention’s highest decision-making forum. It brings together countries across the region to discuss the protection and sustainable management of marine and coastal resources amid growing environmental challenges.
The summit’s agenda includes strengthening regional cooperation, addressing the effects of climate change and promoting the blue economy, which can support economic growth through the sustainable use of marine resources.
