Mogadishu, 15 September 2026 Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources have identified 29 districts across 14 regions as priority areas for preparedness and response to flood risks associated with the Deyr 2026 rainfall season.
The districts identified as priority areas include Doolow, Luuq, Baardheere, Bu'aale, Beledweyne, Buuloburde, Jowhar, Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe, Bosaso, Qardho, Baidoa, Gaalkacyo, Kismayo, Afgooye, Buurhakaba, Jilib, Afmadow, Diinsoor, Qansaxdheere, Jamaame, Ceelburde, Sablaale, Kurtunwaarey, Marka, Baraawe, Dhusamareeb and Balcad.
SoDMA said on Monday that although other areas may also face potential flooding, these locations were selected as the first priority for preparedness measures and response planning.
The agency urged communities living in flood-prone areas not to wait until floodwaters reach their homes, but to closely follow official early warning updates issued by SoDMA and other relevant institutions.

Residents in vulnerable areas were also advised to identify safe locations, evacuation routes and prepare essential items, including medicines, water, food, phones and important documents.
SoDMA further warned families not to allow children near floodwaters and advised people and vehicles against entering flowing water where the depth and conditions are unknown.
The agency said the measures are part of wider efforts to strengthen national preparedness and reduce the potential impact of flooding during the Deyr 2026 rainy season.
