MOGADISHU, Somalia — Mogadishu has hosted Somalia’s first banking and finance exhibition, bringing together 16 financial institutions, including 13 banks, one insurance company, and two mobile-based financial service providers.
The two-day event aims to enhance public understanding of financial services while allowing banks to showcase their offerings and innovations. More than 1,000 businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and members of the public registered to attend.
“The main objective of this exhibition is to highlight the performance of banks and their contribution to economic and social development,” said Ahmed Khadar Abdi Jama, Chairman of the Somali Bankers Association. “It also provides an opportunity for banks to share their experience with the public.”

Participants demonstrated various services, from traditional banking products to digital solutions, while discussing the role of financial institutions in supporting Somalia’s economic growth and fostering financial inclusion.
Organisers said the exhibition represents a new step in bridging the gap between banks and the public, encouraging transparency, and promoting access to financial tools across the country.
