MOGADISHU, 10 October 2026 — Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has forecast varying levels of rainfall across much of the country between 10 and 15 October 2026, with heavy downpours expected in parts of southern, central and northern Somalia that could lead to flooding.
According to the ministry’s forecast, rainfall of 50 to 100 millimetres, with some areas potentially receiving more than 100 millimetres, is expected in parts of Gedo, Bay, Bakool, Hiiraan, Galgaduud, Mudug, Sool and Nugaal regions.
Districts expected to receive heavy rainfall include Luuq, Doolow, Garbaharey, Baidoa, Buurhakaba, Hudur, Beledweyne, Buulo Burte, Dhusamareb, Guriceel, Galkayo and Las Anod.
The ministry also forecast moderate rainfall of 20 to 50 millimetres in parts of Lower Juba, Middle Juba, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle, Banaadir, Togdheer, Sanaag, Bari and Woqooyi Galbeed regions. Areas covered by the forecast include Kismayo, Afmadow, Bu’aale, Jilib, Afgooye, Marka, Jowhar, Mogadishu, Burao, Erigavo, Qardho and Hargeisa.

Meanwhile, rainfall of less than 20 millimetres is expected in parts of Awdal, Woqooyi Galbeed, Sanaag and Bari regions, particularly in Saylac, Lughaya, the coastal areas of Berbera, Qandala and Caluula. Light rainfall is also forecast in limited areas of western Gedo and along the coast of Lower Juba.
The ministry warned that heavy rainfall could cause flooding and waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas and locations where water tends to accumulate.
Although the rainfall could benefit agriculture, grazing land and water sources, the ministry urged residents to remain vigilant and follow official weather forecasts and warnings.
