Somalia, April 4, 2026 – Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has appointed Abdirazaq Osman Nor as Director of Political Party Registration, according to a statement issued by the commission’s chairperson.
In a letter dated April 4, the commission said the role will oversee the registration and supervision of political organisations across the country.
The NIEBC said the appointment was made in line with its legal mandate and internal regulations, and is intended to improve the administration of party registration and ensure compliance with national laws.

The commission instructed the appointee to carry out his duties in accordance with the constitution and relevant legal frameworks, adding that the decision takes immediate effect.
The move comes as Somalia pushes ahead with electoral reforms aimed at introducing a one-person, one-vote system, replacing the long-standing clan-based model.
The commission, led by Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, has begun registering political associations as part of a pilot phase that recently included Mogadishu’s first direct local elections in decades.
