Somalia, July 23 2026 – Somalia's National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has approved 35 political parties to contest synchronized elections in Hirshabelle State.
The commission said on Wednesday that the parties had met the legal requirements and electoral procedures needed to participate in the elections, which will cover local councils and the Hirshabelle House of Representatives.

The announcement comes as the commission prepares to hold synchronized elections in Galmudug on July 30, as part of Somalia's broader electoral programme.
The federal government has already conducted local council elections in Banadir and South West State, and the Hirshabelle process marks the latest phase of efforts to expand electoral participation across the country.
