Mogadishu, 26 August 2026 — Somalia's National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) on Wednesday said it had accepted a Supreme Court ruling annulling elections held in Galmudug and would proceed with a new vote.
In a statement, the commission said it accepted the court's decision issued Aug. 24, which nullified the parliamentary and local council elections held in Galmudug on July 30.
The commission said the ruling was based on constitutional and electoral law provisions and fell within the authority of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had ruled that the elections did not comply with the Constitution and electoral laws.

The court's decision followed a challenge to the validity of the elections and requires the electoral process in Galmudug to be conducted again in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The commission said it would soon announce a date for the rerun, to be organized within the framework of the court's ruling and electoral laws.
The decision is expected to reset the electoral process in Galmudug where the July 30 results had been challenged.
