Cairo, 5 September 2026 Somalia has been elected alternate external auditor of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa (AFROSAI-A) for the 2026-2029 term, the Office of the Auditor General said.
The election took place in Cairo during the founding meeting of AFROSAI-A, which was attended and addressed by Auditor General Ahmed Issa Gutale, according to the office.
AFROSAI-A elected Somalia’s audit office as alternate external auditor, while Algeria’s audit office was elected as external auditor for the same term.

Gutale thanked AFROSAI-A for the confidence placed in Somalia’s audit office, saying the organization plays an important role in strengthening professional cooperation, knowledge exchange and capacity development among supreme audit institutions in member countries.
He said AFROSAI-A should move beyond its establishment phase into a more operational and effective stage that strengthens cooperation and supports implementation of joint audit programs.
AFROSAI-A brings together nine Arabic-speaking African countries and aims to strengthen supreme audit institutions, promote professional development, facilitate experience sharing and enhance financial accountability among its member states.
