Beletweyne, 5 September 2026 — National Disaster Management Agency Chairman Mohamud Moallim Abdulle arrived in Beledweyne on Saturday to accelerate emergency response and preparations for potential flooding, the agency said.
Moallim, accompanied by Hirshabelle’s state minister for humanitarian affairs and disaster management, was welcomed by regional officials and community representatives, according to SoDMA.
The visit is part of federal efforts to strengthen preparedness and reduce the impact of expected flooding amid forecasts of possible El Niño effects, the agency said.

During his stay in Beledweyne, in Hiraan region, Moallim is expected to meet regional and district officials and community representatives. He will also visit areas near waterways to assess conditions and raise public awareness.
The SoDMA chairman urged communities to help clear and maintain waterways to improve flow and reduce flood risk.
He also advised residents to avoid areas vulnerable to flooding and take early precautionary measures.
