Mauritania, July 8, 2026 – Somalia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar delivered a message from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani as the two countries seek to strengthen relations.
During a meeting in Nouakchott, Omar conveyed the Somali president's greetings and best wishes to Ghazouani and presented a letter expressing Somalia's appreciation for Mauritania and its desire to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Somalia's foreign ministry said the visit is intended to deepen longstanding ties between the two countries and explore opportunities for closer collaboration.

In a post on X, Omar said he was honoured to deliver the president's message and reaffirm Somalia's commitment to advancing relations with Mauritania.
The two countries maintain diplomatic relations and cooperate through regional, African, Arab and Islamic organizations.
