Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the Israel attacks on civilians in Gaza, Palestine, following the horrific bombing of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital.
The horrific bombardment of the hospital killed over 500 people, including doctors, nurses, and civilians, mostly women and children who were seeking shelter in the hospital amid increased Israeli bombings in Gaza.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia strongly condemns the horrific bombing of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, killing more than 500 Palestinian civilians, including children and women. The occupying Israeli army bears full responsibility for this tragedy,” the statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
The federal government noted that Israel’s actions in Gaza are flagrant and unwarranted violations amounting to war crimes, which are against international laws, norms, and humanitarian law.
The federal government called for the urgent need for an international response to stop these violations and war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.
“The Somali government calls for immediate international intervention to halt the ongoing violations and massacres being endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza,” the statement read in part.
Somalia further urged the Israeli government to adhere to international laws and stop further committing war crimes against civilians, as well as allow access to humanitarian aid for the people in Gaza.
“Somalia urges Israel to adhere to international law, cease its continuous attacks on the Palestinian population without conditions, and establish secure corridors and open borders for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip,” the statement added.
Arab countries, including Iran, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Qatar, have condemned the attack on the hospital.
Jordan has called off a planned meeting between the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, and Arab leaders in the capital city of Amman.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that the meeting will be held after all parties agree to ending the war crimes and the massacres against Palestinians.
Western leaders have also condemned the attack, although they didn’t specifically condemn Israel for the responsibility of the attack.
Israel has been conducting air bombings on innocent civilians in Gaza since Hamas launched the deadliest attack on Israel in thirty years, killing at least 1400 Israelis.
The bombardments have targeted civilian homes, schools, hospitals, and other public institutions, such as banks and markets, killing more than 3000 innocent Palestinians.
