Somalia, July 31 2026 – Somalia has condemned the drone attack on Egypt's Port of Damietta, saying the strike threatened freedom of navigation and regional stability while expressing solidarity with Cairo.
In a statement issued on Friday, Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced what it described as a terrorist drone attack that targeted the Mediterranean port on July 29, causing fires aboard two vessels and endangering critical infrastructure.
"The Federal Republic of Somalia strongly condemns the terrorist drone attack that targeted Egypt's Port of Damietta," the ministry said.
Somalia said it stood firmly with Egypt in confronting threats to regional security and voiced concern over attacks targeting vital maritime infrastructure.
The ministry said such attacks threaten freedom of navigation and undermine stability across the wider region.

"Somalia stands firmly with the Arab Republic of Egypt in confronting this threat and is deeply concerned by attacks that threaten freedom of navigation and destabilize the entire region," the statement said.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and warned against what it described as a pattern of regional escalation that threatens peace and prosperity.
Egypt has not publicly identified those responsible for the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Egypt's Port of Damietta is one of the country's main commercial ports on the Mediterranean Sea and serves as a key gateway for regional and international trade.
