Mogadishu, 9 September 2026 Somalia's second media relations strategy forum concluded on Tuesday in Mogadishu after two days of discussions involving government institutions, media organizations, international partners, civil society groups and experts, the Ministry of Information said.
Held under the theme "Shaping the Future of Somali Media in the Modern Era," the forum focused on developing and modernizing Somali media, strengthening government-media relations, ensuring access to reliable information, combating misinformation and using modern tools such as artificial intelligence.
The forum included panel discussions, presentations and expert sessions that examined opportunities and challenges facing Somali media, as well as its role in stabilization, public awareness, humanitarian response and peacebuilding, the ministry said.
Ministries of information from the federal government, federal member states and the Banadir Regional Administration also held a separate session focused on strengthening government communication coordination, aligning key messages and implementing the National Media Relations Strategy.

At the closing ceremony, Information Minister Abdulfatah Qasim Mohamud said the government is committed to modernizing the media sector, improving journalists' skills and building a trusted media environment.
The minister also thanked the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia and all parties that contributed to organizing the forum.
The Ministry of Information said it will prepare a report containing outcomes and recommendations from the forum, which will serve as a basis for an action plan to further develop Somali media and strengthen media relations coordination.
The forum concluded with an agreement to establish it as a regular platform for consultation, cooperation and development of Somalia's media sector.
