Beijing, 20 August 2026 — Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdulfatah Qasim Mohamud on Thursday addressed the 7th Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation in Beijing.
Speaking at the forum, the minister highlighted Somalia’s progress in modernizing its media sector and stressed the need to adapt to technological changes, including the use of artificial intelligence in journalism and media production.
Mohamud said Somalia is working to build a modern media sector capable of keeping pace with global developments, delivering reliable information, supporting social development and strengthening public engagement.

He also called for deeper cooperation between Africa and China in media, particularly in technology, professional training, exchange of expertise and capacity-building for media institutions.
The minister said Somalia is ready to take advantage of opportunities emerging from the forum to improve the quality and capacity of the country’s media sector.
He was accompanied by Somalia’s Ambassador to China Hodan Osman Abdi and Radio Mogadishu Director Abdulfatah Dahir Jayte.
