MOGADISHU, 5 October 2026 Somalia has strengthened its role in regional accountability after Auditor General Ahmed Isse Gutale on Sunday signed audit reports covering institutions and projects of the East African Community.
The reports cover the EAC Secretariat, the East African Legislative Assembly, the East African Court of Justice, the East African Kiswahili Commission, the East African Science and Technology Commission, the East African Health Research Commission, the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization, and the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency.
The work comprises special audits, information systems audits, and a performance audit of the East African Monetary Union, along with related management letters.

Somalia’s participation strengthens its role within the EAC governance framework and supports transparency, accountability and sound financial management across regional institutions, the office said.
The process also gives Somali audit professionals experience with regional institutions, shared audit approaches and cross-border accountability systems, and supports institutional learning and professional exchange.
Somalia joined the East African Community in 2024, becoming its eighth member.
