Somalia Auditor General Pushes Reforms in Government Contracting System

Somalia's Auditor General Ahmed Isse Gutale met with officials from key government ministries on Monday to discuss streamlining government contracting processes, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability.

The Auditor General’s office said the discussions focused on procedures related to the documentation, registration and implementation of government agreements and contracts.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the National Identification Authority, and the Revenue Directorate at the Ministry of Finance.

Officials highlighted the importance of the meeting in strengthening institutional systems, improving workflow across government agencies, and reinforcing accountability mechanisms.

They also underscored that such efforts are critical to ensuring that public contracts are executed in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, a key step in safeguarding national interests and boosting public trust in government institutions.

The Auditor General’s office said enhanced coordination among agencies, a unified understanding of procedures, and faster document processing are essential pillars for building transparent governance, stable administration, and accountable public service delivery.
