Mogadishu, 13 September 2025 - The 7th Session of the Federal Parliament of Somalia is scheduled to open on September 20, following a month-long delay.
In a statement issued Saturday, the leadership of both chambers said they had agreed on the new date after internal consultations.
The reopening had initially been scheduled for August 23, but failed to take place.
“The leadership of both houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has decided that the 7th session will open on Saturday, 20th September 2025,” the statement said.
Members of the House of the People and the Senate have been instructed to return to Mogadishu ahead of the official opening.
So far, no official explanation has been given for the extended recess.
During the 7th session, Parliament is expected to debate key legislation related to the electoral process, as well as revisit four chapters of the Constitution under review for amendment, following an agreement reached between members of the Somalia Salvation Forum and Villa Somalia.
