MOGADISHU, Somalia – July 22, 2026 – Somalia and South Korea have held talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in maritime security, government institutional development, and capacity-building.
Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hassan Mohamed Ali, received Park Ji-Hyun, South Korea’s Ambassador to Somalia, in Mogadishu on Wednesday.
The discussions focused on deepening the longstanding partnership between the two nations, particularly in maritime security, personnel training, staff capacity-building, and institutional strengthening.

The South Korean ambassador reiterated her country’s unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Both parties also explored opportunities under the Korea–Africa partnership, which aims to promote sustainable development, reinforce governance, and support the development of resilient government institutions across the continent.
The meeting underlines Somalia’s commitment to international collaboration for secure and stable maritime routes, as well as the broader enhancement of governmental capacity to meet regional and global challenges.
