Rwanda, 28 October 2025 – Somalia and Rwanda have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening their trade and diplomatic cooperation in the East African Community market.
The agreement was signed in Kigali, Monday, by Somalia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and his Rwandan counterpart, Ambassador Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe.
The agreement focuses boosting trade and investment in agriculture and industrial sectors.
Somalia is currently working to attract international investment and expand its global trade ties, with a particular focus on countries within the East African Community (EAC), which it joined recently.
According to United Nations trade statistics, Rwanda exported nearly one million dollars’ worth of goods to Somalia in 2022, up from over one million dollars in 2019. However, there is no official record of Somalia’s exports to Rwanda, indicating the trade balance remains largely in Rwanda’s favor.
Officials from both countries described the agreement as a gateway to sustainable cooperation based on mutual interests in business, investment, and regional stability, contributing to peace and prosperity across the Horn of Africa.
