Egypt, 29 September 2025 – Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi on Sunday held talks in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart Abdelmajid Saqr on strengthening military cooperation and regional security, according to statements issued by both countries.
Egypt’s Military Spokesperson said the meeting covered ways to boost cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces and support stability across Africa.
Minister Saqr said Egypt “values the strong relations with Somalia” and is keen to expand military cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defence said Fiqi commended Egypt’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region, adding that the two governments share common positions on strategic issues.
Minister Saqr confirmed that Egyptian troops will join the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in the coming period.
Senior officers from both militaries, including Egypt’s chief of staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, attended the meeting.
