MOGADISHU (Dawan Africa) – Somalia and Djibouti have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on political consultations, according to Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Mogadishu on Saturday by Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and his Djiboutian counterpart, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, during a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters.
According to the Ministry, the meeting covered areas such as security cooperation, regional stability, and international issues of mutual concern. The Ministry said the MoU establishes a framework for regular dialogue between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening diplomatic coordination and advancing shared priorities at regional and international levels.t“We have strengthened and jointly signed here an agreement that expands our longstanding cooperation, and from now on we want to review it once a year or every six months,” said Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“This is another opportunity where we agreed to sign a political consultation agreement between our two ministries, one that will be permanent and not limited to ministerial visits, but will ensure timely communication between both sides,” said Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the agreement builds on the historic ties between the two countries, which continue to pursue cooperation through bilateral mechanisms and joint initiatives.
