Somalia, 6 April 2026 At least 12 Al Shabaab fighters were killed in an airstrike early Monday in a rural area between the towns of Baidoa and Daynunay in Somalia’s Bay region, the defence ministry said.
The strike was carried out by the Somali National Army in coordination with international partners, targeting members of the Al-Qaeda-linked group.
“The airstrikes targeting militants from the Khawarij Al-Shabaab killed 12 terrorists, while several others were injured,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that the operation being conducted by Somali forces and international partners is part of ongoing efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab’s capabilities and improve security across the country.
The strike comes as Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud continues his visit of Baidoa, where federal authorities recently stepped security efforts following a leadership changes in South West state.
