Somalia, 25 October 2025 — The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has dispatched 3,000 bags of food supplies to residents displaced by recent fighting in Awdhegle, Sabid, Anole, and Barire in Lower Shabelle region.
In a video released by the agency on Friday, SoDMA said the aid was sent from its central warehouse in Mogadishu to the region using five trucks, each carrying 600 bags of assorted food items.
“We want to make sure this food reaches the intended beneficiaries directly, household by household,” said Sahra Ali Yusuf, the Director of the Agency’s Relief Department.
The agency did not specify the types of food items distributed or the exact number of families expected to benefit.
The consignment was officially handed over to Si’id Ade’d, the Regional Coordinator for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the South West State, who received it on behalf of the regional authorities.
“We are here today at SoDMA’s central warehouse receiving 3,000 food bags loaded on five trucks. The food will be delivered to the towns of Awdhegle, Sabid, Anole, and Barire — all recently liberated areas in Lower Shabelle,” Si’id said.
SoDMA said the assistance is part of its emergency response efforts to support communities affected by conflict and displacement, especially in areas recently retaken by government forces from Al-Shabaab.
The targeted towns are among those recently recaptured by the Somali National Army (SNA) with the support of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Awdheegle was the latest town to be secured by government forces on October 5, 2025.
