Somali Senate Approves New Member of Human Rights Commission.

Mogadishu, 29 August 2026 - Somalia's Senate has approved lawyer Mohamed Hassan Nur to fill a vacant seat on the National Independent Human Rights Commission, the family ministry said.

Deputy Family and Human Rights Development Minister Maryan Ali Abukar presented Nur to senators after he completed vetting under national laws, the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development said.

The ministry welcomed the approval, saying it was an important step to complete the commission's membership and strengthen its mandate to protect and promote human rights.
