Somalia, April 11, 2026 Somali security forces seized a motorcycle loaded with mortars and explosive devices in Mogadishu late on Friday, thwarting what authorities described as planned attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
Police said the operation was carried out at around 23:40 local time following intelligence provided by residents of the capital.
According to security officials, forces conducted an operation in and around the Dayniile district, where they intercepted the motorcycle carrying at least five mortar shells concealed inside sacks of vegetables.
The explosives were allegedly being transported into Mogadishu to target civilians and destabilize security in the capital.

Authorities said the suspect driving the motorcycle attempted to detonate the explosives after realizing he was about to be apprehended, but security forces managed to prevent the attempt and safely secure the materials.
Police officials thanked residents for their cooperation, saying community support played a key role in the success of the operation.
They added that security forces remain committed to maintaining safety in the capital and preventing threats posed by militant groups.
