Somalia, 3 November 2025 — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) says its forces, backed by international partners, killed 23 Al-Shabaab fighters during an operation in El-Weyne village, near El-Baraf in Mahaday district, Middle Shabelle, on Sunday.
A statement issued by NISA on Monday said the raid targeted a gathering point for senior Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters preparing attacks.
“The operation was conducted after confirming that the terrorists had assembled militants at a location they intended to use as a base to organise attacks,” the agency said.
“Twenty-three members, including commanders and fighters, were neutralised.”
The agency described the operation as successful, adding that no civilians were harmed.
“There were no civilian casualties during the operation,” NISA noted.
Authorities said a similar operation took place in the same area on 30th October, resulting in “significant losses” for the group.
NISA urged the public to report any security threats or information related to Al-Shabaab or Islamic State cells through its emergency hotlines.
