JIGJIGA, Ethiopia, September 30, 2026 - The Somali Regional State Cooperative Agency and ChromePay have signed a five-year agreement aimed at digitising the financial systems of local cooperatives, according to the Somali Regional State Television (SRTV) on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, ChromePay will support 35 cooperatives in the Somali Region as they transition to digital financial systems and adopt new technology, SRTV reported.
The company will also provide training and capacity-building programmes for cooperative members and officials, with the aim of strengthening their ability to manage digital financial services.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Somali Regional State Cooperative Agency by its manager, Dahir Sheikh Abdi, while Buruk, ChromePay’s manager for eastern Ethiopia, signed on behalf of the company, according to SRTV.
The partnership comes as Ethiopia’s Somali Region expands efforts to promote digital services and financial inclusion. Development agencies have also highlighted the growing role of digital finance and technology in improving access to financial services and economic opportunities in the region.
