Somalia, 21September 2025 – Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, today laid the foundation stone for the new headquarters of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, which will be the main office, bringing together all departments currently scattered in different locations.
The new complex will be constructed in Bondhere District, the site that once hosted the ministry’s offices during the era of Somalia’s former military government. The aim of the new headquarters is to consolidate the ministry’s operations and make educational and higher learning services more accessible across the country.
The Prime Minister described the groundbreaking as an important step that reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen education infrastructure and improve public services.
“This ministry is one of the most important in the country, as it manages the nation’s most vital asset: our children and the young people striving to gain education. The government’s responsibility is to ensure that they have proper facilities where they can learn,” said the Prime Minister.
The new headquarters has been described as a cornerstone of the government’s plan to improve key public services, with construction expected to be completed in the near future.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior government officials, Banadir regional administration leaders, and officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.
