Riyadh, Saudi Arabia(Mogadishu24)-Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a powerful address at the Islamic Summit in Riyadh today, emphasizing the urgent need for a ceasefire and humanitarian support in Gaza amidst escalating violence impacting both Palestine and Lebanon.
The summit, hosted by Saudi Arabia, gathered leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, President Mohamud said, “Gaza is now enduring unprecedented destruction and humanitarian crisis. This situation is not only a call for regional solidarity but a test for humanity.”
He urged the international community to act in unison to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian aid to those in dire need.
Reflecting on Somalia’s own history of conflict, President Mohamud extended his support to those enduring prolonged suffering, calling for a ceasefire to enable relief efforts and establish space for critical dialogue.
He advocated for a sustainable peace based on the establishment of a Palestinian state within 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, which he deemed essential for long-term stability in the Middle East.
The president commended Saudi Arabia for its leadership, expressing gratitude to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for convening the summit.
He concluded with a call for unified action, urging world leaders to “make this moment count,” shaping a future rooted in peace and mutual respect across the region and beyond.
