Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has directed Somali troops who recently crossed the border into neighbouring Kenya to return to their original areas, assuring them that no punitive measures will be taken and that their safety will be guaranteed.
“The President instructed the troops who crossed the border into our neighbouring country, Kenya, to return to their areas, assuring that no one will face punishment and that their safety and security will be guaranteed,” Villa Somalia said in its statement.
The announcement came after recent fighting in Gedo region. President Mohamud conveyed condolences to the families of those killed in the clashes and wished the injured a quick recovery.
According to official accounts, the fighting occurred in the border town of Beled-Hawo between Federal Government forces and troops loyal to Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madobe.” Federal forces took control of the town, while Jubaland troops withdrew across the border into Kenya.
The President instructed the Federal Government to provide urgent medical care and humanitarian relief to those affected by the conflict in Gedo. He also reaffirmed his call for all parties involved to work toward peace, unity, and national cohesion, framing the appeal as part of a broader push for conflict resolution and long-term stability in Somalia.
The statement stressed the government’s commitment to safeguarding its forces and addressing the humanitarian needs arising from the situation.
