Somalia, 16 April 2026 Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held closed-door talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul Tuesday, Turkish government sources said.
The meeting was also attended by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, National Intelligence Organization Chief Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Foreign Policy and Security Adviser Akif Cagatay Kilic.
No official details have been released about the content of the discussions.

Meanwhile, President Mohamud is expected to travel to Antalya to attend the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2026), hosted by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will take place from April 17–19, 2026.
Relations between the two countries have strengthened in recent years, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure development, and economic cooperation.
