DJIBOUTI, May 8, 2026 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on Friday to attend the inauguration ceremony of Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh following his recent re-election, according to the Somali presidency.
A statement from the Office of the President of Somalia said Hassan Sheikh and his delegation were received at Djibouti International Airport by Djiboutian Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and other senior officials.
The Somali presidency said the visit reflected the close political and diplomatic ties between Somalia and Djibouti.
Hassan Sheikh is among several regional leaders and officials expected to attend Guelleh’s inauguration ceremony in Djibouti on Saturday.

The Somali presidency also said the Somali president is expected to hold meetings with senior Djiboutian officials during the visit.
Guelleh is beginning a new presidential term weeks after securing re-election in a vote won by the ruling camp.
Djibouti maintains close political, security and economic relations with Somalia and continues to play a significant diplomatic role in the Horn of Africa.
