Somalia, 12 June 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has alleged that foreign actors were involved in the recent political unrest in Mogadishu, saying the government is conducting investigations into both external and domestic individuals linked to the incident.
Speaking on Miizaan Podcast, of Dawan Media, the president said the federal government had repeatedly urged opposition leaders to pursue political disagreements through dialogue rather than confrontation.
He described the recent clashes in the capital as an attempt to pursue political objectives through force, accusing opposition figures of mobilising armed supporters and creating insecurity in parts of the city.
Hassan Sheikh said Somalia continues to face foreign interests that prefer to see the country remain unstable and politically fragmented.
“Major investigations are ongoing,” he said, adding that the government would disclose findings concerning both foreign actors and local collaborators at the appropriate time.
