Somalia, 4 November 2025 — Somali Police have arrested a suspect accused of operating an illegal abortion clinic in Mogadishu.
The arrest followed a raid on a residential location where women were allegedly receiving abortion services.
The Banadir Regional Police Command said the suspect has been taken to custody pending further investigations.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Somali Police spokesperson Abdifitah Adan expressed shock at the level of organization behind the operation, including its public online advertising.
“They even created a Facebook page. It openly stated, ‘We are ready to help you if you want to terminate your pregnancy.’ This is the worst kind of tragedy — making something like this look normal,” the police spokesperson said.
Authorities confirmed will be handed over to the relevant security agencies before being formally charged in court.
Police also appealed to the public to report persons or organizations offering illegal medical services, emphasizing the protection of life and the sanctity of human dignity under Somali law and Islamic principles.
