MOGADISHU, September 26, 2026 - Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre said his shared political agenda with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was the main reason the two leaders had avoided disputes that divided previous administrations.
In an interview with Dawan's Miizaan Podcast aired on Saturday, Barre said he and the president had known each other for years and had discussed how they wanted to govern Somalia before taking office together.
"We share an outlook. We share a vision," he said. "I had a role in developing the plan. I am not simply benefiting from it."

Barre said his relationship with the leadership of parliament had also helped maintain political stability. He described them as close friends who had taken care to prevent disagreements from developing.
He also rejected the idea that political rivals could sway him through clan interests, personal gain or foreign influence, saying his decisions were guided by Somali national interests and state-building.
Clashes between Somalia's president and prime minister have disrupted governments in the past. Barre said he was aware of the time and resources such disputes could consume and had decided he would not allow a similar conflict to arise on his account.
