Mogadishu, 2 September 2026 Somali party Towfiiq has called for members of the National Electoral and Boundaries Commission to be replaced to ensure credible and transparent repeat elections in Galmudug.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Towfiiq said it supported efforts to hold elections in Galmudug and Hirshabelle but argued that electoral arrangements needed to be reviewed before the process proceeds.
“We are convinced that changing the commission is the only solution that can be trusted to ensure the repeat elections in Galmudug,” the group said.
Towfiiq accused the commission of failing to comply with electoral laws and procedures to ensure an independent vote, adding that it had lost public confidence.
The party called on the federal government, political organisations, civil society and the international community to help establish an electoral framework that complies with national laws.

It also urged the creation of a new commission for the repeat elections, saying the body should be independent, impartial and capable of winning public trust.
The statement comes amid continued disagreements over electoral preparations in Galmudug, where Towfiiq said it wanted the process to be conducted lawfully and to produce legitimate results.
The party also called for a review of the electoral process, including the composition and performance of the current commission.
It said it would continue to support efforts to hold elections in Galmudug and Hirshabelle, while insisting that any process must comply with the law.
The National Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the federal government did not immediately respond to the allegations.
