Somalia, 19 October 2025 — Somali authorities have confirmed the extradition of Jama’ Abdi Mahamud, a Somali national, accused of rape and the production and distribution of indecent videos involving women in Qardho, Puntland.
According to a statement issued today by the Office of the Attorney General said Mahamud had fled to Rwanda, following the allegations, but was tracked down and arrested through a joint operation involving the Somali Police Force, the Attorney General’s Office, and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
The suspect was transferred to Somalia on Saturday, 18th October, via Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, and was immediately handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning.
“The suspect has been handed over and detained at the CID’s Criminal Investigation Department,” the statement noted, adding that he “will soon be referred to court to face justice.”
The Attorney General’s Office expressed appreciation to Rwandan authorities, Interpol, and the Somali Police for their collaboration in ensuring the suspect’s repatriation.
In its statement, the Attorney General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and protecting the dignity and rights of Somali women.
The case underscores Somalia’s strengthening international cooperation on criminal investigations and highlights the improving cross-border coordination among law enforcement.
