Somalia, 31 January 2026 The chairman of the Technical Committee of the Somali Future Council and a member of the Constitutional Review Committee, MP Abdullahi Abukar Haji Arab, expressed optimism that an agreement would be reached at the upcoming national consultation conference, while also noting that steps would be taken if the talks fail.
In an exclusive interview with Dawn Media, the lawmaker said: “If no agreement is reached, consultation will be held., but I hope that an agreement will be made.”
He added on the steps that would be taken if the two sides fail to reach an understanding: “A grand conference will be held … and whatever comes out of that conference will be acted upon.”

Arab emphasized that the consultation conference is crucial for the country’s political future, and that its failure could necessitate urgent meetings to find a solution, while ensuring democratic processes and inclusive participation of all societal stakeholders.
The national consultation conference is expected to be hosted in Mogadishu, aiming to reach a political agreement that unites the views of the opposition and the government, while facilitating constitutional reforms and preparation for upcoming elections.
