MOGADISHU, September 27, 2026 Somalia’s First Instance Military Court on Saturday sentenced former soldier Abdi Adan Ibrahim, known as “Soddon,” to death by firing squad after convicting him of killing Yusuf Ahmed Abdi, who was travelling as a passenger in a tuk-tuk.
The incident occurred on July 26, 2026, in the Iga-daba-geey neighbourhood of Garasbaley district, according to the court’s chairman, Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shuute.
According to the prosecution, the victim, a construction worker, had finished work that afternoon and hired a tuk-tuk to take him home.
The defendant, who was standing by the roadside, allegedly stopped the vehicle and asked the driver for a ride. The driver told him they were not travelling in the same direction.The court said Abdi Adan then prevented the tuk-tuk from leaving, claiming that he suspected the driver and passenger and that they needed to be searched.

Following an argument, the defendant fired two shots. One struck the ground, while the other hit Yusuf Ahmed Abdi in the abdomen, killing him at the scene.
The defendant attempted to flee and hid beneath a tree near the scene. Witnesses alerted security forces to his location, leading to his arrest.
After an investigation, the Office of the Armed Forces Prosecutor requested permission to proceed with the case, which was granted on September 16.
The court said it gave both sides sufficient time to present their arguments and evidence before sentencing Abdi Adan Ibrahim to death by firing squad as retribution for the killing of Yusuf Ahmed Abdi.
