Somalia, 14 September 2025 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Abdisalaan Abdulle Ali ‘Dhaay', is attending a high-level ministerial meeting in Doha, ahead of an emergency summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
The minister arrived in Doha on Saturday to participate in the meeting, called by Qatar, to deliberate the Israeli airstrike on a building in the capital, Doha, on 9th September. The ministers' meeting will come up with resolutions to be presented to the leaders summit, scheduled for Monday, for ratification.
Somalia's President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is expected to travel to Qatar today to attend the leaders summit, which Doha confirmed will go ahead as planned.
Somalia was one of the United Nations member states that condemned the Israeli airstrike, targeted at Hamas leaders attending a meeting in Doha.
"The Government of Somalia affirms that these actions constitute a clear violation of international law and pose a threat to regional peace and security" a statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in response to the airstrike last week.
The attack resulted in the deaths of five Hamas members and one Qatari security official, who were negotiating a proposed U.S. plan to end the Gaza conflict, where more than 64,000 people have been killed since October 2023. Qatar, the U.S., and Egypt have been mediating negotiations between Israel and Hamas to end the prolonged conflict.
