Somalia, July 13 2026 – Somali special forces killed seven Al-Shabaab fighters, including a senior operative, during an overnight operation in the Lower Shabelle region, the Ministry of Defence said on Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said the operation was carried out shortly after midnight by the elite Danab commandos in the town of Sablale, targeting locations where Al-Shabaab fighters were believed to be operating.
The ministry said those killed included a commander involved in organizing the group's fighters, but did not identify the individual.

It said the forces also destroyed two facilities that Al-Shabaab had been using for military training and the dissemination of extremist ideology.
The Ministry of Defence said operations targeting Al-Shabaab's leadership, fighters and infrastructure would continue as part of efforts to weaken the group's operational capabilities and improve security.
