Kenya, July 14, 2026 - The Kenya Railways Corporation has announced the arrest of six suspects in connection with an alleged fake Madaraka Express ticket booking scheme.
In a statement on Tuesday, the corporation said that the suspects were apprehended after investigations uncovered fraudulent online booking platforms and individuals impersonating the Corporation to defraud members of the public.
Travellers who such schemes have defrauded have been encouraged to contact the corporation, which is still working with security agencies to apprehend other people involved in the scheme.
Members of the public can report such cases by calling 0709907000, 0709907555 or by emailing info@krc.co.ke.
“Investigations are ongoing, and Kenya Railways will continue working with the relevant investigative agencies to pursue all persons involved and ensure they are brought to account,” the authority stated.
“The Corporation urges members of the public to continue reporting cases of fraud or suspicious activities relating to Madaraka Express ticket bookings,” the authority added.
In recent months, complaints have been arising from passengers who say they were scammed after booking Madaraka Express (SGR) tickets through fake Kenya Railways websites and social media pages which are being operated by fraudsters.
The scammers often create convincing websites or online platforms that closely resemble the official Kenya Railways booking portal, luring unwitting Kenyans into paying for non-existent tickets.
To avoid falling victim to fraudsters, Kenya Railways reminded passengers to book Madaraka Express tickets only through its official channels, including the online booking platform, https://metickets.krc.co.ke, or the *639# USSD service, or at Madaraka Express passenger service stations.
“Kenya Railways wishes to notify members of the public that fraudulent websites, social media pages and individuals are impersonating the Corporation and deceiving customers into making payments through fraudulent channels, resulting in financial loss,” KRC stated in a previous notice.
