Somalia, 22 May 2026 – Somalia’s Defence Ministry said on Friday a coordinated airstrike with international partners killed six Al-Shabaab fighters in Lower Shabelle.
The ministry said the strike targeted militants in the Ugunji area who were allegedly regrouping to organize attacks against civilians.
Six Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and weapons used by the group destroyed during the operation.

“The Ministry of Defence and the Command of the Somali National Armed Forces reaffirm their commitment to intensifying operations against the remnants of terrorist groups and targeting them wherever they hide,” the ministry said in a statement.
The latest operation comes as Somali security forces intensify operations against the group in southern and central Somalia, with support from international partners.
