Cairo, 21 September 2026 Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and CIA Director John Ratcliffe discussed security in Somalia, the war in Sudan and wider developments in the Horn of Africa, the Egyptian presidency said Sunday.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for efforts to strengthen security and stability in Somalia and rejected any action that could undermine the country's sovereignty, unity or territorial integrity, according to a statement from the presidency.
Ratcliffe stressed the importance of continued coordination between the United States and Egypt on Somalia, Sudan, the Horn of Africa and the security of international shipping routes, the statement said.
The talks also covered cooperation between the CIA and Egypt's General Intelligence Service in counterterrorism, organized crime and cross-border criminal activity. Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad attended the meeting.

On Sudan, Sisi reiterated Egypt's support for the country's unity, territorial integrity and national institutions. He said Cairo remained involved in international and regional efforts aimed at ending the war, easing humanitarian suffering and supporting a political settlement.
Ratcliffe praised Egypt's role in supporting stability in Africa and called for continued exchanges of intelligence and assessments about regional security and geopolitical developments, according to the presidency.
The two officials also discussed the conflict in Gaza, the Iranian crisis and maritime security. Sisi called for political and diplomatic settlements to regional disputes and the protection of civilian populations.
