Kenya, April 9, 2026 - Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is in stable condition but nursing serious injuries following a violent attack in Kisumu, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has confirmed.
Sifuna spoke after visiting the legislator at Karen Hospital, where Osotsi is receiving treatment after being airlifted from Kisumu.
“Just left Karen Hospital… he is badly injured but the doctors are taking good care of him. They say he is ‘stable’… it shouldn’t come to this,” Sifuna said.
His remarks paint a grim picture of the aftermath, even as doctors continue to monitor the senator’s recovery.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since launched a probe into the incident, terming the attack “brazen and cowardly” and assuring the public that efforts are underway to track down those responsible.
“At this stage, the motive… has not been established. Our detectives are pursuing crucial leads following forensic analysis of CCTV footage,” the agency said.

Preliminary accounts suggest the attack happened shortly after Osotsi had made a routine stop in Kisumu, where he had interacted with members of the public.
Authorities believe the assailants confronted him before the situation escalated into violence. However, investigators are yet to confirm the motive.
The incident has drawn condemnation from political leaders, with calls for swift action and accountability.
Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue, while promising to bring those behind the attack to justice.
